Fix It Week: Polished Patent Marilyn Brooks Bag

I found another Marilyn Brooks Clock purse at the Goodwill (it was part of my epic thrift week which I promise I will share the details with soon). The only problem was that its acrylic face was badly scuffed up. In the watch world, a lot of collectors of vintage watches use Brasso to buff old crystals so I thought I’d give it a shot. It worked pretty well. I wouldn’t say it looks shiny and new, but you can see through it and the surface is now uniform.I was also reluctant to go too heavy on the polishing because I didn’t want to thin the acrylic too much (Brasso is an abrasive meant for polishing brass and therefore removes a layer when you use it).

In a nutshell, it didn’t make it perfect but it made it better.
