Summer of Stripes

I finally had time to go to The Bay to buy one of those striped canvas shoppers I’ve been seeing about town all summer. They are only $10. I may go back and buy another for when this one wears out. I also realized that I have fully embraced the horizontal stripe this summer — something that big girls are not supposed to do. It just happened without me even realizing it. Back in the spring, in fact, I thought that this was going to be the season of the polka dot.

It began innocently enough with a Saint James sailor shirt that I found at the Value Village. Then I found the gauzy Ella Moss top pictured above on the sale rack at Anthropologie.

As the temperatures have risen, so has my stripe mania. I picked up the blue and white Wood Wood sundress and the yellow and blue Cooperative shawl at Urban Outfitters last Thursday (aka the hottest day ever). I am now pairing stripes with more stripes. If I examine this phenomenon, I realize its a Proustian thing. One of my favourite garments ever was a pair of knit, horizontal striped culottes that I had one summer in high school.
