Art Deco Week: 1922 14K White Gold Watch Chain

I found this broken watch chain Friday at an antique shop for $5. I love it when a piece is hallmarked with a date, in this case 1922. Whilst researching this baby, I found a lot of North American jewellery in the 20s was marked with a year. I don’t know why they stopped this practice.

Watch chains, which had become oversized and ostentatious in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, became sleeker and more streamlined in the 1920s. This piece is also made of white gold, which, along with platinum, was the preferred deco material.

I’ve turned this broken chain into a bracelet for the time being.
