Midweek Modness: Vintage Pierre Cardin Dress
I think I can say that this is the best dress I’ve ever found for under $10. I got it for $8 at a garage sale. It’s not quite a wrap dress. In fact, it fastens like a Korean Hanbok. While it’s not one of Cardin’s signature Space Age looks, it still feels like a piece that was made in the early 1970s — before he started licensing his name to any old piece of frippery. And because it’s not a piece that’s rooted in one fashion era, it’s kind of hard to date it exactly.
It feels like a silk chiffon, though I can’t find a fabric label. It probably came with a slip which is long gone. And the woman who sold it to me said that it had been altered at some point, though I haven’t figured out exactly where.
