Solar Eclipse Special
In honour of today’s solar eclipse (well, partial solar eclipse here in Toronto), I thought I’d share a photo of my small, solar-powered watch collection.
From left to right:
In the 1990s, Swatch made a series of solar-powered timepieces. This model from 1996 is the Solar Swatch Watch High Temp SRK103.
The Casio G-Shock 8900 was probably made for the Japanese market (at least that’s what the guy at the watch repair place said when I went in to have this watch jump started after a winter spent in a dark drawer). You see, technically this model uses light to charge a battery (as opposed to being solely solar powered). It also automatically calibrates to an automatic clock in Colorado. It has so many special features that I can’t figure out.
And my Q+Q SmileSolar watch is a fun guy, needs no battery replacement and is made from recycled materials.
