This happy face belongs to one of my favourite artworks, a small Inuit carving signed Qumaluk. Ever since I got it, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to display it properly. It fits in the palm of one’s hand but just placed on its back doesn’t have that much presence. Last week at the Value Village, I came across this cast metal thing-a-ma-jig and I thought that my face might fit it. I don’t love how it obstructs some of the head, but overall it literally elevates the work and that’s what important. Also, I can also easily take it out of the stand and hold it in my hand when the urge arises.
