Midweek Modness: Kalevala Koru Cross
Last Sunday, Mr. Andrew and I went on an afternoon movie date. We went to our favourite cheap movie house, THe Rainbow Cinema Market Square, which is conveniently located beside the St. Lawrence Sunday Antique Market. We poked around a little. I found a table with a tray of $5 jewellery pieces, which is where I found this made in Finland Kalevala Koru Cross. The company was founded in the 1930s but really found its footing in the 1960s with its reinterpretations of historical Finnish jewellery as well as more futuristic collections by designers such as Pentti Sarpaneva. In fact, the wire wrapped bale on this piece is the same as Sarpaneva used in his work.
It’s quite lovely but alas I am uncomfortable with religious iconography, so I have listed it in the Gracious Good Etsy shop.
